Blackbird and the 102

A wonderful shave this morning. Blackbird shaving soap is extremely good (I think it’s made by LA Shaving Soap Company, but I’m not sure of that), and I would use it more if the tub had a greater diameter to make loading easier: there’s just not quite enough work space. However, using the Maggard 22mm synthetic, I found the loading went well despite tub dimensions, and I was very pleased with the lather, both in consistency and fragrance.

The 102 remains a solid favorite. It has the characteristic stringbag mentioned: a narrow cutting angle, so you’re either getting a good and comfortable cutting action or it’s not cutting at all—there’s no angle at which it’s cutting and feels harsh. (Indeed, that may be the problem that some people have with the 102, saying that it is for them very inefficient: they may not be using the good cutting angle.)

Three passes, and mostly BBS after the second, and then a good splash of La Toja.
