I wrote a post about using a high-glycerin soap to wash one’s stubble just prior to lathering, and one of the comments asked how well I rinsed off the soap. I hadn’t really thought about it—I usually advise to “rinse partially with a splash”—but pressed to put a number to the thoroughness of the rinse, I wrote that I rinse off 75%-80% of the soap.
But that made me realize I hadn’t really experimented with the degree of rinsing, so I thought I should try rinsing in degrees: one shave with little rinse, next with a little more, next with more still, and so on. So today when I picked up MR GLO, I washed my beard well and did not rinse at all.
Instead, I immediately applied a (very nice) lather I worked up from Meißner Tremonia’s Natural Bay Rum with the Satin Tip brush shown, and worked it well into the stubble. There was no fragrance conflict: the lime fragrance of MR GLO is not all that strong, and the Natural Bay Rum fragrance easily overwhelmed it, in a pleasant way.
I used the Weber ARC (Advanced Razor Coating) razor, shown with its original handle, and easily got a very smooth result with no problems. A splash of Captain’s Choice Bay Rum and the shave was satisfactorily done.
Not rinsing off the soap was no problem, and I think I might dispense with the rinse, though tomorrow I’ll try just a little rinsing.
