I have recommended the Disruptor shaving brush for a while now, based on general principles:  22mm knot of the Plissoft type, attractive handle, and a very good price: $9. Just to confirm its quality, I bought one, and it’s terrific, as expected. And the price is the lowest I’ve seen for this type of knot. (The Omega S-Brush, another synthetic, has some models for $8, and that also is a good brush.)

JL Davis has an Etsy store, which is where I got the Bee Spicy soap shown. Its ingredients:

Stearic Acid, Water, Coconut Oil, Tallow, Potassium Hydroxide, Shea Butter, Glycerin, Honey, Fragrance

The lather is excellent and the fragrance is quite pleasant: “Fresh essence of bay leaves with the perfect touch of clove and the bright enjoyment of orange peel and zest,” to quote the vendor.

The tub is ludicrously large. In fact, I wish I hadn’t bought the soap: the tub (which is at least twice as tall as would be required to hold the soap) just takes up too much room. When he says “plastic containers allow extra room,” he is making a gross understatement. Although the soap is quite good, I cannot recommend the purchase because of the completely unnecessary bulk of the container. I understand that some like a little room within the tub, particularly novices who have not learned to load the brush neatly, but this vendor takes it to an extreme. A container half as tall would be (IMO) much better.

With a good lather, I picked up my new RazoRock Old Type razor, $15. I bought it based on this statement in the description at the link:

If you are a fan of our discontinued RazoRock Baby Smooth safety razor, the RazoRock OLD TYPE offers a similar balance of safety and efficiency.

I’ll do a comparison shave using both some day soon, but I can already say that this razor is exceptionally comfortable and exceptionally efficient, as is the Baby Smooth—and in fact, as are quite a few razors, but damn few at this $15 price. I think this razor is a great bargain and worth considering for a novice.

Three passes easily left a BBS result. A good splash of Paul Sebastian aftershave, and the weekend begins on a good note.
