The Wet Shaving Products Monarch is a favorite brush: I like the handle style and the knot is excellent. It easily worked up a very nice lather indeed from Chiseled Face’s Summer Storm, which has a petrichor fragrance.
I had read someplace on Wicked Edge a comment by someone who thought one reason he wasn’t getting a close shave is because he was using an Edwin Jagger razor. Although I have other razors I like more, there’s nothing wrong with the new (since 2010) Edwin Jagger head design: it is both quite comfortable and quite efficient, and in my view it represents a marked improvement over the Merkur Classic head (found, for example, on the 34C), which Edwin Jagger had previously used. (In this shave, I inadvertently did a blind comparison between the Merkur Classic head and the Edwin Jagger head.)
I particularly like this model of the Edwin Jagger, with the fluted black-rubber handle: totally non-slip and, to my eye, attractive. And this morning it did a fine job: very comfortable, no nicks or other problems, and a BBS result after three passes.
A good splash of Summer Storm aftershave finished the shave. I hadn’t realized it included menthol, which made its presence strongly known. I’m not much of a menthol fan, but those who like it will like this aftershave even more than I do. The petrichor fragrance so evident in the soap seems to be missing from the aftershave, whose fragrance is described as:
Moist earth, oak moss, cut grass, pine needles, orange, lemon, ozone, white jasmine, lily of the valley, geranium and musk.
The list of ingredients, had I but read it, does mention menthol:
Alcohol, Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera Juice, Fragrance, Calendula, Sodium Lactate, Menthol, Vitamin B5 Pro, Astaxanthin
Perhaps he will develop a menthol-free version at some point.
