Klar Kabinett was a very nice shaving soap, sold as a package of two 500g bars. The apothecary bowl contains half of one bar. The soap made a fine lather and had a rose fragrance and was quite modestly priced—too modestly, apparently, since the soap went off the market some years ago. Soap Commander’s Love shaving soap is an homage to Klar Kabinett and an effort to recreate fragrance and lather.
In digging around in the shaving shelves, I discovered this and was delighted to use it today. The fragrance seems much muted—in fact, I couldn’t detect it—but the lather, worked up with the Omega 20102, was excellent. (Tomorrow I’ll shave with Soap Commander Love—an odd turn of phrase if read aloud—and compare.)
The razor today is a flat-bottom Tech, an English Gillette that seems more efficient than the US Tech though equally comfortable. Three passes resulted in a trouble-free BBS, and a good splash of D.R. Harris Pink Aftershave—a very nice aftershave for summer—finished the job.
Shortly after posting this I’ll be sending a different flat-bottom Tech—when I learned about these I got a little over-enthusiastic and ended up with two—and the one I’m selling is somewhat interesting because it sports a miniature version of the regular Tech handle:
The one I used is the one in back; the one to be sold is the one in front. The balance is not bad—the handle, though small, is solid metal, unlike the hollow regular handle—but the handle sees a little small for my taste. The great thing about the three-piece design, though, is that you can swap handles, and I think this flat-bottom head on a Maggard MR7 handle would make a stunning razor.
Still, I had no idea that miniature handles were a thing. I did know about short handles as for travel razors, but I had not known of the miniatures.
