I have to day that the Van Yulay soaps are remarkably good. I do add a little water as I load the brush, but the resulting lather is remarkable: dense, creamy, slick, and fragrance—and I particularly like the fragrance of After Dark, whose ingredients are:
Stearic Acid, Aloe Vera, Coconut Fatty Acid, Castor, Glycerin, Potassium Hydroxide, Coconut-Emu-Babassu-Olive-Argan-Jojoba-Oils, Calendula, Extracts, Poly Quats, Sodium Lactate, Allantoin, Silica, Liquid Silk, Bentonite Clay, Essential Oil, and EO’s and Fragrance.
I think it’s probably all those oils that give it the wonderful feel (and make the skin feel so nice). If you’re a vegan, note that the soap is not.
The H.L. Thäter brush is a wonderful little brush. The spiky appearance of the knot is because the knot has hooked tips. Once the brush is wet, it works like a regular brush, but the surface is quite soft, though the knot is not fluffy/soft at all.
I’m now using the Rockwell R4, and I think the R4 or R5 correspond to the Maggard V3A head: definite blade feel and highly efficient but still quite comfortable.
My face is so smooth—and fragrant. The Van Yulay aftershave splashes have the same overall formula:
Aloe Vera, Witch Hazel, Abyssinian Seed-Emu-Red Castor-Evening Primrose-Rosehip Seed-Oils, Comfrey, Calendula, Tepezcohuite, Oat, Marshmallow, Green Tea Extracts, Liquid Silk, and Fragrance
Again, not vegan, but still a very nice aftershave for those who have not forsworn animal products.
La La Land opens today, and I think I may go to see it in a theater…
