Hallelujah! The Baby Smooth has arisen from the discontinued!
The new Baby Smooth rests on the tub of Creed’s excellent Green Irish Tweed shaving soap, with the old one in front. The difference in handles is obvious. But what about the head?
To find out, I used both in this morning’s shave. Creed’s Green Irish Tweed is ridiculously expensive—my tub dates back to when it was merely surprisingly expensive (at $62/tub)—but it is very good (as it damn well should be). Still, a good artisan soap is IMO equal to the performance.
Nevertheless, my Rooney Style 3 Size 1 Super Silvertip easily made a very nice lather indeed, and the fragrance was wonderful.
Not to stretch it out, so far as I can tell the old and new head feel and perform exactly the same. I tried to photograph a side view of the head, but the new handle has a slightly rounded bottom, so the razor will not stand upright on the base of the handle. But on visual inspection the two heads look the same, particularly in the extreme curvature of the blade (much like the Dorco PL602, which feels and performs much like the Baby Smooth despite the difference in materials and manufacturing method).
The Baby Smooth is an excellent razor for anyone, and a novice would love it for its great comfort and reluctance to nick, along with its superb efficiency.
Three passes, totally smooth, and a splash of Creed’s Green Irish Tweed EDT to finish the job.
Rain is pouring down but a great shave puts sunshine in your heart.
