Whipped Dog brush with Midnight Stag and the Eros slant

The little Whipped Dog silvertip is a really excellent brush that cost me around $32 at the time. It’s a 22mm knot set at standard depth in an octagonal handle. It performs very well and feels good on my face. And the lather from Chiseled Face’s Midnight Stag is wonderful and its fragrance is interesting: “Russian Leather, Motor Oil, Hoppes #9, Birch Tar, Oakmoss, Gasoline, Smoke, Cedar, Cade, Bergamont, Vanilla.” I found the motor oil note more noticeable in the soap than in the aftershave, but noses vary.

Three passes with the vintage Eros slant shown left a perfect BBS result. In this use, it seemed to me that the Eros has more blade feel than the 102, which I have found to be its closest match. I’ll use the 102 tomorrow to confirm.

A good splash of Midnight Stag, and I’m ready for another day of rain, which is pouring down as I write. All eyes are on the Oroville Dam. The fear is that we may see a dramatic end to years of dispute between the county supervisors and the Department of Water Resources over the dam’s maintenance, the county pushing for maintenance and work on the emergency spillway, the DWP refusing. The dam represents a dramatic example of how the U.S. has neglected its infrastructure for decades.
