The Vie-Long brush shown is a bit of a mystery. It was sold as a boar brush, but it sure seems like horsehair to me: finer hairs, a bit softer on the face. At any rate, it’s a terrific little brush, and this morning it did a fine job with the late lamented Strop Shoppe’s very good Via Dell’Ambra tallow+lanolin shaving soap, making a fine lather.
The Fatip Testine Gentile has quickly become a favorite razor: extremely comfortable and highly efficient, with no worries about (e.g.) small nicks in the XTG pass—in fact, no nick worries at all. And the end result is invariable BBS. I would have liked this in gold, but the chrome is fine. The head comes in various finishes and with various handles, including some made of wood. Italian Barber has them (but the gold is still “sold out”).
A good splash of Speick, and the day begins. It will be interesting to see how the Kansas election today plays out.
