A little late getting started: Megs had to go in for fur removal. Vet didn’t want to use clippers, so brushed out a ball of fur that, once squashed, was the size of a grapefruit. (Megs does not tolerate brushing at home: cf. Devil.) All is well now, with Megs resting comfortably if somewhat grumpily in the sun.

The shave was excellent. I find that I am increasingly fond of this little Omega boar brush—a virtuous circle, since my liking the brush causes me to use it fairly often, which helps it break in and thus increases my liking. With a shave stick, it’s ideal if the brush will hold enough lather for the shave (you can use the brush directly on the shave stick to reload, but I don’t like to do that: cheating). With a boar brush that can be tricky, especially before the brush is broken in. I had no problems at all with this brush at this point: I rubbed the (superb) Fresh Lemon Honeybee Soaps shave stick over my beard—and note that the shape also works well for shaving legs—and immediately got a fine lather, which I worked up at length simply enjoying the feel and the fragrance.

Finally I turned to the shave itself: the iKon model 2 stainless open-comb holding a Gillette 7 O’Clock SharpEdge razor. (I had the razor plated in gold as part of investigating plating an dhow it worked.)

Extremely good shave: BBS with no nicks. And I was delighted with the fragrance of Mr. Taylor’s aftershave, which I’d sort of forgotten. I’m moving this one forward on the shelf.
