Mike’s Natural and the German 37

Mike’s Natural soaps have always presented me a bit of a challenge in coaxing a long-lasting lather, and this morning I didn’t quite have the right combination. I did pre-soak my Rooney Victorian brush, and I thought I loaded amply. The soap had dried out quite a bit since the last use, but that should not affect things, given the excellence of the lather I get from soaps like Yardley and Lenthéric that spent decades drying out. Still, I got enough for this shave, but I think I’ll retire this tin.

I do love the RazoRock German 37—a bargain, and a better format (IMO) for the Merkur 37 head: the three-piece design allows you to swap handles, though the handle supplied is quite satisfactory, and also to buy the head separately should you already be the proud owner of a razor handle. Three passes to a totally smooth result with no damage done.

I decided that I have been unnecessarily restrictive in using my slants only on Mondays, when I have the pleasure of shaving a two-day stubble. Hoffritz, after all, sold their rebranded Merkur 37 as a daily shave because of the ease and smoothness of the razor’s action, and there’s no reason not to use a (good) slant as a daily driver. Indeed, the Parker Semi-Slant would, I think, make anyone happy. (Perhaps you should treat yourself to one for getting your flu shot. I’m getting mine today.)

A good splash of Barrister & Mann’s extremely nice Fougère Classique, an aftershave I should use more often, and I’m ready to set out for said flu shot.
