I forget just how great this razor is. First, though, the prep: Simpson Chubby 1 Best with Mama Bear Hydrogen Fragrance shave stick was a quite route to a superb lather. I really like the “Hydrogen” fragrance. Hydrogen the element has no fragrance, as you know, but this soap definitely has a fragrance, and a very nice one at that:
Top fruity notes of apple, grapefruit, peach and leafy greens; with middle notes of lily, lavender, rose and violet; and finally base notes with amber, sandalwood, and raspberry musk.
I can’t get over how excellent are the lathers I get from Mama Bear soaps. Today was no exception.
And then the shave. This slant may not be for a newbie, but perhaps because a newbie would not realize just how excellent it is. A few have tried to match the action, but I’ve not found a razor exactly like it. The Stealth is close, but the Merkur bakelite has a bit more blade feel and, for me, leaves a smoother result. I need to bring this one out more often.
Three passes, BBS result, and a splash of Bulgari provided a good finish.
