I got the new razor (a Maggard MR3, whose handle is also sold separately) because I realized I didn’t have enough razors was intrigued by the handle, which is also sold separately. The handle is hollow and can be filled with weights. I had assumed that the bottom unscrewed and you added the weights, but instead it seems weights must be added through the (threaded) hole into which the cap stud screws: i.e., some passing small weights. Very small lead shot would do, I imagine. But the razor’s pretty nice as it. UPDATE: As pointed out in the comments, the base of the handle does unscrew. It simply requires more effort than I brought to bear.
The brush is a Gerson—a French brand and I believe made by Mühle—and it did a fine job. Ogallala shave sticks are quite good for me, so the whole prep was a pleasure. The blades are a new brand for me—they came with the razor—so I thought worth a try. BBS shave, so not bad, but still not so easy-cutting as some other brands, but definitely quite workable… for me.
A splash of woods, and we are now on holiday: The Wife’s last work day until next year was yesterday.
