A Victorian shave

Living as I do in Victoria, a Victorian shave seems apropos, and so it is today: my Rooney Victorian brought forth a fine lather from Phoenix Artisan’s CK-6 version of Cavendish, and surely the goateed gent in the Trilby could be enjoying his pipe at a time in Queen Victoria’s long reign.

The image is interesting, because the three orientations — defined by the PA logo, the image, and the soap title — differ between soap and aftershave. If you match one’s alignment, you are misaligned on the other two. I matched logo alignment, and both the smoker and the soap title alignments don’t match. So it goes: tragic ananke, right here in the morning shave.

As you can tell, I’m on a CK-6. I love its luscious lather, but of course tomorrow I’ll move along. (Long-time readers already know tomorrow’s soap.) Both fragrance and lather feel (and warmth) made prep a pleasure.

With the RazoRock stainless-steel Mamba in hand — and I do like the Halo handle — I quickly and easily wiped off all the stubble that roughened my face, leaving an exceptionally smooth result.

As I shave, I drift into a kind of meditative reverie, and somehow was thinking of tomorrow’s aftershave when the time came for the post-shave splash, so I was somewhat surprised by the Cavendish fragrance, since I was thinking of something else. But it was a not unpleasant surprise, and I do like how PA’s aftershave fragrances have staying power.

A good start to a slightly overcast day — not dark, but also not sunny.
