A woody shave, with the Gillette Heritage

This morning I felt one of life’s little pleasures: being well-rested. I capped off a good night’s sleep with the pleasure a good shave. Meißner Tremonia’s Woody Almond shaving paste has a great fragrance — the cedar notes take it beyond the usual almond beloved of Italian shaving soaps — and my RazoRock Italian-flag synthetic shaving brush did a great job.

The Gillette Heritage wisely uses a clone of the Mühle/Edwin Jagger head, and the shave today was excellent, in part because the blade in it has seen few uses. Three passes to a smooth result, and then a good splash of Anthony Gold’s wonderful Red Cedar aftershave mixed with a little Grooming Dept Hydrating Gel — now that the bottle has too little left for the pump to work, so I have to pour it out. This morning I got enough so that my face is really hydrated.

The tea this morning is Murchie’s Keemun Extra Superior black tea: “Smooth, incredibly well-rounded flavour with fruity undertones, light briskness and a sweet finish. The Anhui province of China is home of the original tea gardens. The soil and climate conditions create teas that are naturally lower in caffeine than other fully fermented teas. Keemun teas are known for their complex characters and are often referred to as the “Burgundy of Teas”.”
