Thäter Fils, Pink Grapefruit, and Lo Storto

A shaving brush with an octagonal black handle with the word "Thäter" printed sideways on one pane. The knot is strongly domed but not large (22mm). Next is a tub of shaving soap with a pink label and a black lid as wide as the label. Printed in black in large letters "Pink Grapefruit" and in smaller letters "Handmade Shaving Paste" at the top and "With Essential Oils From Grapefruit And Eucalyptus" at the bottom. Lying on the lid is a gold slant razor with a handle in a twist design. Next is a frosted glass bottle with a tall black lid and a white label with black letters that say "Eau De Lavande" and below that, in a smaller font, "lavender - bergamot - lemon." The bottom of the label reads "Wild Coast Perfumery - Vancouver Island."

Today Thäter Fils — 22mm — comes out to play, and I have to say that I am really liking the dome shape, which seems to have some advantages over the fan shape. The edges of the fan shape lack support and thus the knot is not quite so structured as the domed knot. I have an impression that the dome knot is easier to load (and easier to rinse out at the end of the shave), and I mentioned yesterday how a very large (30mm!) dome-shaped knot is easy to use. A fan-shaped 30mm would splay out and cover a large part of one’s face. (I had such a brush: a Rooney Style 3 Size 3 Super Silvertip. I gave it up, but I do like my Rooney Style 3 Size 1 brush.)

I easily loaded the brush with Meißner Tremonia’s Pink Grapefruit shaving paste. “Pink Grapefruit” sound too sweet and citrusy to me, but the eucalyptus straightens it up and takes it in a new direction. This is one of my (many) favorites.

Fatip’s Lo Storto is a very nice slant indeed, both comfortable and efficient, and three passes left my face perfectly smooth. I do like the twisted design of the handle.

A splash of Eau De Lavande from Wild Coast Perfumery, augmented with a couple of squirts of Grooming Dept’s Aion Hydrating Gel, and the (very sunny) day begins.

The tea this morning is Mariage Frères Sakura Blue®: “The new SAKURA BLUE® JARDIN PREMIER label is a fabulous blue tea with notes of blooming cherry trees. The indigo-coloured liqueur is reminiscent of the azure skies of sunny mornings in Tokyo. The cup offers the refreshing spring gentleness of fragile petals taking flight. A sparkling canister of blue and silver presents this deliciously fragrant blend.”

“Blue” is the word Mariage Frères uses for “oolong.”
