A shaving brush with a black base, cherry-read handle, and black base sits next to a tub of shaving soap on its side so its top faces the camera. The label has a black background and is printed in white. In the center is a Medusa head with 10 writing snakes evenly space issuing from it. Above is printed "Ariana & Evans" and below "Tobacco Road". Printed vertically on the left is "Ultima." Next is a black squat rectangular — almost square — bottle with the same label. In front, lying on its side is a matte metal double-edge razor with a comb guard.

A person on Mastodon recommended the Ariana & Evan Ultima formula, so I decided to try it. I ordered the Tobacco Road version, and I’m glad I did. The lather I made with the little RazoRock Amici brush was exceptionally thick and slick, and it felt good on my skin. The fragrance also was very nice: “Hinoki, Honey, Bay Leaf, Tobacco, Smoke, Amber.” The formula:

Stearic, Tallow, Glycerin, Beer, Shea Butter, Kokum Butter, Shorea Butter (India), Sunflower Oil, Castor Oil, Cupuaçu Butter (Brazil), Mango Butter, Cocoa Butter, Palm Fruit Oil, Emu Oil, Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Xanthan Gum, Agave, Sodium Lactate, Fragrance

Three comfortable passes with my doughty iKon Shavecraft #101 left my face perfectly smooth, and a splash of the Tobacco Road aftershave finished the job. This aftershave needs no help from the hydrating gel — take a look at the ingredients in an Ultima aftershave:

Aloe Vera Juice,  SD 40B Alcohol, Rose Hydrosol, Vegetable Glycerin, Emu Oil, Calendula Extract , Red Clover Extract, Chamomile, Plantain Leaves, White Willow Bark, Vitamin E, Hyaluronic Acid,  Caprylic Triglycerides ( combination of plant sugars and fatty acids derived from palm and coconut oils for silkier feel and as a natural preservative).

The first ingredient is Aloe Vera Juice, a remarkable amount. The aftershave feels good on my face, and it comes in a 5-ounce bottle.

The coffee this morning is Fantastico’s El Salvador – Mauricio Salaverria: “Well-rounded, Silky, Rich.  Graham Crust, Malted Chocolate, Baked Apple, Green Grape, Soft Berries”
