Even upside down, Ousia is a great soap

An unbleached boar brush with a large tan knot and a white hand on which "Zenith" is printed in black stands next to a tub of shaving soap on its side. Its label is shown upside down and depicts the interior of a cathedral and in gold letters the word "Ousia." In font, lying on its side, is a black DE razor. To the right is a rectangular glass bottle with a wide black lid and a black label that has the word "Diplomat" in white letters, printed sideways.
Unbleached boar works even when soap is upside down

The position of the tub of shaving soap is due to an early-morning oversight, but the shave turned out excellent anyway. This Zenith unbleached boar brush, the 80B XSE, has a loft of 64mm — a reasonable loft for a boar brush. I let the knot soak while I showered.

Ousia is made from Grooming Dept’s Kairos formula in the special edition that includes lamb tallow and emu oil, and the soap has an excellent fragrance: “Fennel, Crystallized Mandarin, Ginger, Immortelle, Tobacco, Incense Accord, Vanilla, Vetiver.” And Kairos SE makes a superb lather.

The head of the razor I’m using is a Yaqi double open comb that does a great job — that head is excellent and is available in various colors and materials. The handle is from a razor whose head I did not like — totally inefficient. But the handle is very nice.

Three passes produced a perfect result, and a splash of Diplomat finished the job.

This morning’s coffee is Fantastico’s Espresso Malinal, a hearty coffee.
