Lovely shave today

A photo altered to look as though painted. It shows a shaving brush with a white handle whose profile is like a keyhole and asynthetic know with tan body and grey tips. Next is a tub of shaving soap on ist side, the label showing a simplified drawing of an anchor in red with "Barrister and Mann Reserve Spice" printed in block red letters around the edge, from the 10:00 o'clock to 12:00 o'clock position. In front of the soap a double-edge safety razor lies on its side. It has a long handle with a hammered finish and is chrome-colored. Last isa rectangular bottle, square in cross-section, with a black cap and a whitle label with a labeled drawing of a tall-masted sailing ship. At the bottom, a black label with white letters reads "Reserve Spice."

Following Barrister and Mann’s advice, I used a synthetic brush — the RazorRock Keyhole, a wonderful little brush whose low price ($10) belies its fine quality — and the lather was luxuriously thick and pleasantly fragrant: “notes of carnation, nutmeg, vanilla, and tonka bean.”

RazoRock’s Adjust is a terrific adjustable razor. The handle looks as though it would be awkward because of its diameter and length, but in practice it’s not at all a problem, and it gives a superb shave. Three passes left my face super smooth. In fact, the results of the shaves I’ve had since I started using the third-pass trick have been exceptionally good. I don’t know whether that contributes, but letting the lather linger on the stubble while I clean the brush might well be helpful for the final pass.

A splash of Reserve Spice aftershave to renew the wonderful fragrance, and the day begins.

The tea this morning is Baltimore Coffee & Tea Co.’s Brassica tea with orange. Great stuff.
