A perfect shave today, starting with a wonderful lather. Tabula Rasa is a top-notch shaving cream that was the Newest Thing a while back. It’s no longer the object of a frenzy, but it’s still a really great shaving cream, well worth a place on the shelf. The tub I bought and still use is their Dark Lavender, but Lee of Lee’s Razors recently emailed me out of the blue and said that he had got to thinking about my support for shaving and my book, and he wanted to send me one of the new fragrances of Tabula Rasa he’s getting. I went for the Patchouli, as you see, and it was an inspired pick. I love the fragrance, and the lather is superb. I brushed the cream with the wet Ecotools brush, brought it to my beard once the brush was fully loaded, and enjoyed a rapturous shave.

Some credit must, of course, go also to the Gillette Super Adjustable. The first stroke was incredibly smooth, just as though there was no blade in the razor, which turned out to be the case. I loaded a new Personna Lab and did three passes, finishing off after the final rinse and dry with a generous splash of TOBS Sandalwood.

Man! what a nice shave!

Even if you’re a soap guy, there are some shaving creams you should have, and Tabula Rasa is on that list, as are J.M. Fraser and Nancy Boy Signature and a cream from AlsShaving.com.
