An extremely good shave today. The Morris & Forndran Blonde Badger made a superb lather from Mickey Lee’s The Drunken Goat, and three easy, trouble-free strokes of the Above the Tie slant holding a Personna Lab Blue blade and mounted on a UFO handle finished the job with dispatch. This is a very nice slant. A good splash of Floïd aftershave—whose warm fragrance is counterbalanced by a touch of menthol—finished the job.
A modest proposal: I’ve noted that several different artisans ship their product in jars that are half empty. While I can understand not filling the soap to absolute brim (though some do that and no problems result in lathering—Martin de Candre, Catie’s Bubbles, Los Angeles Shaving Soap Company, and others—quite a few use tall jars that contain a lot of empty space.
I suggest that artisans use jars with a maximum height of 1.75″, leaving space as appropriate for the weight of the product. Reason, other than being able to fit more jars when they are stacked on shelves: the USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Small Box has 1.75″ room, so that such jars are easily shipped: one could easily slide two or three jars of that height (or less) into a box.
The taller jars now used, like the jar shown, will not fit that box, so are a pain to ship. (I am here thinking about individual shavers who might want to send someone a soap or two as a gift.)
