Great shave with Dr. Jon’s and Wolfman dual guard razor

SOTD 22 May 2015

Terrific shave, but I did not use both soaps. I put both in the photo so you could see the difference between the 4-oz tin and the 2-oz tin. The 2-oz tin offers a loading area that’s 3″ in diameter, which is quite ample for a comfortable load (though a larger diameter does help somewhat—I’m very fond of 5″ pucks, but they are more difficult to store). Particularly if you like a variety of soaps, I would recommend the 2-oz tin: it’s about half the price so you can have twice as many soaps. :)

Both of these fragrances are wonderful, BTW: Savannah Sunrise, the one I used this morning, has Honeysuckle, Jasmine, Gardenia, Peach, and Orange blossom. Propaganda is a blend of vanilla, sandalwood, musk, patchouli and mandarin—he had me at vanilla, but the combination is terrific.

The soaps are quite soft and seem to be packed using a spatula. This is a good soap to get: the lather, with the help of Mr. Pomp, was quick thick and luxurious—and fragrant.

I used the Wolfman Razors WR1-DC head—open comb on one side, bar guard on the other—with the WRH2 handle, along with a Personna Lab Blue blade: a terrific shave: nick-free BBS result. The two sides feel pretty much the same on the face in terms of both comfort and efficiency, so despite the dual guards, I used it like a regular DE, flipping to the other side as soon as one side filled with lather.

Three passes, a good splash of Alt-Innsbruck, and I contemplate the coming weekend. Here’s a close-up of the razor head-on:

As noted earlier, the Kindle edition is now available. I have lowered the price substantially for this edition. The book is really written for the complete novice—indeed, for someone who might be only contemplating switching to DE shaving—with information on the choices and tradeoffs of equipment and supplies, along with how to get the best results. In other words, it’s best if the book is purchased early in the process. But at the old price, it suddenly struck me that many would postpone purchase until they’re sure they like DE shaving, rather than buying it at the outset, as I had intended.

Thus the lower price is to encourage early purchase, perhaps even at the point where DE shaving is merely being considered as a possibility. And, of course, I expect the lower price will also encourage giving the book to men who must shave but hate it—birthdays, graduation, Father’s Day, and the like.

For the same reason, I’ve reduced the price of the print copy somewhat. But my hope is that the Kindle price is now in the region of impulse purchase so that more men will start DE shaving with more information.

You can look at this page for links to where the book can be bought—and the Kindle version turns out to be available from Amazon.com.au and Amazon.nl, which I had not realized.
