A very fine shave today. The brush shown is the Wet Shaving Products Prince, a very nice little silvertip badger brush, and the soap is Razor Emporium’s re-creation of the original of the Williams shaving soap, using the original formula. It makes an extremely nice lather, thick and rich, and the fragrance is decidedly old-fashioned and somewhat medicinal: a citronella scent. Some will not like it, but if I keep my grandfather in mind, it makes sense: a no-nonsense fragrance for the serious business of shaving. And I love the lather. (You will note that the tub is sold full rather than partly empty.)
The razor is the British Gillette Aristocrat Jr., a very nice little razor. Here it is beside the Gillette Super Speed from the 1940s. (Click photo to enlarge.) The Super Speed is in front. The Aristocrat Jr. looks svelte, but it is in fact heavier than the Super Speed (55g for the Super Speed, 73g for the Aristocrat Jr) and even outweighs the Rocket I used yesterday (72g), even though the handle is of smaller diameter. The head of the Aristocrat Jr. is pretty hefty, and the handle also has more weight than one would expect.
It shaves quite well: three passes to a BBS result, with no nicks, burn, or cuts.
A good splash of Fine Clean Vetiver and we are well launched into the middle of the week.
