Soap Commander’s Endurance is, I read, a descendent of the original Old Spice shaving soap, the soap I used in high school. They write, “Our Endurance scent is our attempt to dupe the Classic and Enduring scent of the 1938 Shulton Company version of Original Old Spice aftershave. . . . Like the 1938 version of the original, Endurance contains top notes that are nutmeg, lemon, orange, star anise and aldehydes; middle notes are carnation, jasmine, geranium, cinnamon, heliotrope and pimento; base notes are ambergris, benzoin, cedar, vanilla, tonka bean and musk.”
I can’t tell whether it hits the mark because it’s been a while, but in any event it has a pleasant fragrance and lathers like a champ. This tub also seems to contain more soap by volume than my previous Soap Commander soap from a few years ago. The ingredients:
Stearic Acid, Distilled Water, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Glycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Castor Oil, Fragrance
I used Maggard Razors’ 22mm synthetic, one of my favorite brushes, and enjoyed the lather a lot.
The RazoRock German 37 is very like the Merkur 37, by design, and it did a really excellent job this morning: totally smooth face and not a single problem. I continue to recommend the German 37 head ($12) to those who want to experiment with a slant without spending a lot of money. It seems to perform well for most, and it might be the only slant you’ll ever need.
A splash of what is said to be the original Shulton Old Spice aftershave formula (purchased from India), and we approach the festive day in fine style.
