I had put this Edwin Jagger synthetic aside in favor of the Plissoft brushes, but now that I try it again, I like it quite a bit. As you can see in the photo, the bristles are not so closely packed as in the Plissoft, which may increase lather capacity and does feel somewhat different on the face: more like natural bristles (which I think was the idea). It also does not retain water the way the Plissoft brushes do—doubtless a result of the slightly more open knot—and one good shake was plenty. In fact, for the Van Yulay soap, a little too much: I added water a couple of times during loading.
The lather was really excellent, but that is due to the brush and the soap, not brush alone. But I felt that the brush performed quite well, and this brush goes back into the regularly used collection. I liked it.
I’m trying to get accustomed to the Fine slant, which so far is easy. I do notice that with the Derby Extra blade I am more conscious of the blade’s encounter with the stubble, so on Monday I’m going to try a Personna Lab Blue.
Three passes, no problems, perfectly smooth face. A splash of Achilles aftershave (and again I give my aftershave splashes a good shake before using) and the weekend is launched.
