I mentioned in the Guide that in the first months of my return to good shaving methods, I would from time to time say to myself, “My! This lather is good,” and on checking, would discover I was using a D.R. Harris shaving soap. And it still happens, though I no longer have to check.
Marlborough’s fragrance, with sandalwood and cedarwood, is particularly nice and led to my choice of aftershave.
I used RazoRock’s Bruce synthetic, a very nice brush with just the right size of knot (for me), and it did a fine job and held loads of lather after loading from the soap scraped onto by face by the stubble as I pushed the shave stick against the grain. The $10 price for a brush of this quality is a very good deal, IMO.
Fendrihan’s razor is extremely nice: comfortable and very efficient—and I easily cleared away the stubble, and then the fine fragrance of red cedar from Anthony Gold’s remarkable aftershave made a great start to a new day (although the day itself is dark and rainy).
The Fendrihan razor I have is a limited edition—stainless steel with a bronze coating—but the identical razor without the coating is still available, and the price (for a stainless razor) is exceptionally good: $40.
