I was going to use a Stirling soap, but I wanted to try Mystic Water shaving soap before the Omega R&B brush is fully broken in. I’ve had occasional dying lather problems with that soap, though not consistently, and in at least one instance I recall lather vanishing after the first pass with a brand new silvertip badger brush. Thus, I suspect: a) any brand-new brush may require breaking in, save for synthetic brushes; and b) some soaps show the new-brush effect more than others. Yesterday’s lather, using a HTGAM soap and this same brush, has a more robust lather persistence.
But I did have lather for three passes, though somewhat thin, and the Tradere solid-bar razor did a very fine job indeed. I chose the Saint Charles Shave Bulgarian Rose aftershave to complement the fragrance of the Mystic Water Rosalimone shaving soap.
Altogether a very good shave, and another step toward a brush that’s completely broken in. Tomorrow I’ll use a Stirling soap; on Saturday I’ll return to Hallows to see what difference a week makes.
