Lavender morning

Photo image processed to resemble painting, with add patches of color and quasi-brush strokes. A shaving brush whose handle bears the windmill and large "M" Muhle logo stands next to a tub of shaving soap whose label shows a loon and the words "Mike's Natural Soaps, Handmade in Portland OR" and the name of this soap, "Hungarian Lavender" Next is a short transparent glass bottle with the Chatillon Lux logo (a fleur-de-lis with an open straight razor hovering above) and the figure of a knight on a steed, with the aftershave name, Champs de Lavande," in large letters. A DE razor with a comb guard and cap lies on its side in front.

The Mühle synthetic is their Gen 2 imitation badger, and this morning it got a particularly good lather — dense, thick, and fragrant — from Mike’s Natural Hungarian Lavender shaving soap.

The razor is a hybrid, with its excellent handle from an Italian model that had a horrible head — totally inefficient, even though called “Slant.” (It was not a slant razor, “Slant” was just the name.) I have paired the excellent handle with an excellent head from Yaqi, a double open-comb (comb cap and comb guard). The result was an excellent² shave: three easy passes to a perfectly smooth result, with never a threat of a nick along the way.

A splash of Chatillon Lux’s Champs de Lavande finished the shave. Great way to start the day.

The tea this morning is Murchie’s Library Blend: “blend of Ceylon, Jasmine, Keemun, and Gunpowder.”
