Shaving creams have been on my mind since getting the Tabula Rasa, so I’m going to spend some time with shaving creams I like—and J.M. Fraser is a strong favorite. I like pretty much everything about it: the lemony fragrance, the 1-lb tub at a reasonable price, the curious efficacy it exhibits in softening stubble, and the quality of the lather overall. With my Omega Pro 48 I easily got abundant, thick lather, and the Pro 48 has ample capacity for many passes—in fact, I think on Monday I might use it with a shave stick before resuming the tour of shaving creams.
Three passes with the bakelite slant produced a BBS finish, and a splash of Booster Aquarius finished the shave in fine style. Booster is the “friend” of the title: J.M. Fraser shaving cream and Booster aftershave seem a natural pairing, though on the labels it looks as though they’re made by separate companies. But both are excellent and both are inexpensive.
