An all-French shave (sort of)

“Sort of” because the Gerson razor shown (with a buffalo-horn handle) is actually a re-branded Mühle Sophist. But it was purchased in Paris by The Wife, and Gerson is (so far as I know) a French brand.

I’m on surer footing with my Plisoon Chinese Grey brush (another purchase made by The Wife in Paris) and Martin de Candre’s limited edition Fougére shaving soap. The fragrance was not strong, but it was pleasant, and the lather was the wonderful MdC lather: thick, abundant, and easily formed: a true pleasure.

Three passes with the Gerson/Mühle holding a Swedish Gillette blade and I had a BBS result comfortably achieved. (The head on this razor is the new design from Edwin Jagger and Mühle.)

I was going to use my Green Irish Tweed as the aftershave, since Creed nowadays is clearly a French company. But The Wife objected that “Green Irish Tweed” doesn’t sound especially French and Creed’s origins are British. So instead I used Guerlain‘s Vol de Nuit as an aftershave. Like Green Irish Tweed, it comes as an EDT with a mist dispenser, so I just mist my hands well and rub it on my freshly shaved and dried beard. Extremely nice.

I’m a happy shaver. :)
