Extremely good shave today. I brought out the Omega Pro 48 (model 10048), one of the Omega brushes sold on Amazon. Someone on Wicked Edge commented that he found the brush difficult to use in face lathering, because the loft and stiffness of the knot tended to fling lather about. My immediate thought is that this to a great extent depends on the technique used and how well the brush is broken in, but I thought it would be good to refresh my memory.
I wet the knot well before I showered, as usual for a boar (or horsehair) brush, and then wet the knot, gave the brush two shakes, and started loading it with Chiseled Face’s Summer Storm. I’m not sure that the petrichor fragrance rings true to my nose, but it’s a very nice soap withal, and I did note that for this brush the additional lathering space was useful.
I loaded the brush well, and then took some time working the lather up and into my beard. No splatters. The brush is pretty well broken in, though, and I do not lather with wild abandon. So for me it was a neat and splatter-free job, both loading and lathering.
I wanted to compare Progress and Valiant so I used both. And both were quite good. I went back to the Personna Lab Blue blade in the Valiant, which seems to work better for me, and I forgot to update the blade in the Progress, which is probably why the Valiant seemed to do slightly better. Close in performance, at any rate.
A good splash of Paul Sebastian, and the day begins.
