Otoko Organics and Irisch Moos, with great companions

A small brush with a handle in shades of green, the silvertipped knot's loft greater than the handle's height. Next is a tub of shaving soap, translucent plastick with a brush-draw ring of green around the center, which shows in black a Japanese character and beneath the words "otoko organics." Next is a small squat transparent glass bottle with a tall octagonal black cap and a green label with white lettering: "Irisch Moose After Shave." The liquid in the bottle is pale green. In front a razor lies on its side. The razor has a cast aluminum head with a comb guard and a stainless steel handle.

I just noticed the green theme of this shave, beginning with the handle of my Omega Mixed Midget — “mixed” because badger and boar bristles make up the knot. I wet the knot before I shower so the boar has time to soak.

Otoko Organics, from Australia, is an exceptional shaving soap with an unusual formula and a great fragrance — clean, but not smelling like soap. I think scent is from the pear essence in the formula. The lather is somewhat unusual in texture but springs readily to life and provides good support for the razor. I like this one a lot.

The iKon Shavecraft #101 is a terrific little asymmetric razor — bar guard on one side, comb guard on the other — though in terms of feel and performance, it is quite symmetrical and I use it like a conventional razor: when one side fills with lather, I switch to the other and continue. I normally rinse once per pass.

A splash of Irisch Moose augmented with a couple of squirts of Grooming Dept’s Aion Hydrating Gel finished the job.

The tea this morning is Queen Victoria — I do like that blend: “rich Darjeeling and Ceylon, smoky Lapsang Souchong, and sweet Jasmine.”
