A wonderful shave today. The fragrance of Mickey Lee Soapworks Cocoa Maya is not in my range, somehow: I get very little of a fragrance hit from it. But the lather it makes is totally superb: extremely slick and nice.
I used my Ecotools Finishing Kabuki Brush, a cosmetics brush ($8 at Walgreens and the like, in the cosmetics department) as the shaving brush this morning. I do like the feel and performance of the brush, though (like so many things in shaving) it’s not to everyone’s taste. Still, it did a fine job today, as did the RiMei head, which today is mounted on a UFO handle and carries a Gillette Super Thin blade.
The RiMei head has the same thinness as the Tech Gillette, which makes it easy to use around the nose. Adding to the agility is the heavy handle. I just realized yesterday that increasing the weight of the handle is fine—it moves the center of mass further down in the handle, which makes the razor feel agile and under good control. But using a lighter handle on a heavy-headed razor moves the center of mass upward, toward the head, which makes the razor feel clumsy and awkward. Thus my Shavecraft #102 didn’t work well on the black resin Edwin Jagger handle—the handle is fairly light—but does quite well with the (much heavier) iKon stainless Bullldog handle.
Three passes to BBS, and then a good splash of Mickey Lee Soapworks aftershave milk. I really like the Italian Stallion fragrance, and I also like the feel of the aftershave milk. When that sample’s gone, I’m going to have to buy a bottle.
This is a new vendor worth watching.
